Chocolate and Munich malt in the mash give this stout its deep crimson hue. Sovereign hops balance the chocolate character of the malts. Fermented with Lager yeast and Swiss water decaffeinated ground coffee beans added to the end of fermentation create a smooth, coffee-forward stout that lets the complex flavors of the coffee shine through.
Legend has it that 9th-century goat herders noticed the energetic effect of caffeine on their goats, who appeared to "dance" after eating the fruit of the Coffea plant. A curious monk then made a drink with the fruit and remained alert through the long hours of evening prayer, thus birthing the original cup of coffee, a beloved beverage still enjoyed by people all over the world today.
